About Us
Carole Blaquiere owns and operates Blaq Bear Eco Adventure Routes. She has been a passionate hiker for over 20 years in Ontario and for the past 10 in Northern Ontario. With her husband, Chris support, she has decided to follow her dreams and start this new endeavor.
'Our passion for the north began with an experience attempting to backpack the Pukaskwa Coastal Hiking Trail over 20 years ago. It started by being unable to cross a river for three days, continued by being marooned with a tugboat captain and a solo canoeist during some rough weather off Lake Superior, and finally being able to hike one of Canada’s most scenic and challenging trails. This was an extreme experience to say the least. |
Since that fateful trip, we have hiked the entire Bruce and Grand Valley Trails, and completed the West Coast Trail and portions of Lake Superior Provincial Park. We also have paddled numerous rivers both in Ontario and across Canada. A few years ago, we had the pleasure of hiking Ireland's Kerry Way. That trip, beautiful though it was, reinforced our belief that we have a treasure right here in our backyard.'
The Voyageur Trail anchors numerous trails along the northern shores of Lake Huron and Lake Superior. It is a footpath through the forest, leading you to countless vistas and scenic viewpoints.
It is a true wilderness trail often tracking several kilometers away from any real roads and then dipping into quaint communities.
At Blaq Bear, we have been involved, on a volunteer basis, with the Voyageur Trail Association since 2008, and continue to support the organization in every way possible.
We strive to make your trip an experience to remember.
